When it comes to selling the smartphone, Samsung leads the market by selling the most number of smartphones in the world. This thing is continued fro several years up until now. Recently a report published by a research firm Strategy Analytics which suggests that the Apple is now leading the market by selling most number of smartphones in the last quarter of 2016. Samsung holds this record, but now it seems like Apple is taking over the market. If you look into the report, you will find that the Apple has sold 78.3 million phones whereas the Samsung has sold 77.5 million phones.
The main reason behind the fall of Samsung’s device is the Note 7. Samsung’s Note 7 was one of the best phones of 2016, but unfortunately, it had some issue with the battery which forced the company to recall all the phone that they sold in that period. Later Samsung discontinued the Note 7 which made a negative impact on the brand Samsung. This incident helped Apple to sell such huge number of phones.
That was just the report about the last quarter of 2016. If you take the whole year as the example, then Samsung still leads the market following by Apple and Huawei at 2nd and 3rd place respectively. In the year 2016 Samsung has sold 309.4 million phone whereas the Apple has sold 215.4 million phone. After Samsung and Apple, Huawei is at the 3rd number for both last quarters of 2016 and for the year 2016 as a whole. Huawei maintained to sell 44.9 million in the 4th quarter of 2016 and 138.8 million smartphones in the year 2016.
The same goes with the market share. In the last quarter of 2016, the Apple took the top position by holding a market share of 17.8% where the Samsung was in 2nd with 17.7% market share. But for the year 2016 Samsung was on top with 20.8% market share and the Apple was in 2nd with just 14.5% market share. This is also notable that Samsung is releasing some models in a year with a price range in all different budget. But the Apple only sold 3 model in the year 2016, and all of them were in top budget only.
The smartphone industry is moving very fast, and it will be interesting to see who lead the year 2017.
